About Rangroot

In the early 20th century, young men from the heart of Punjab set out across the seas in service: soldiers of quiet resolve, carrying little more than duty and haunsla (spirit). Their journey took them to the distant outpost of Rangoon, Burma now called Yangon, Myanmar. One here, far from home, they came to be known as Rangroots. Recruits ->Rangroots.

In unfamiliar lands and unforgiving moments, life demanded ingenuity. With scarce provisions and no certainty of tomorrow, they turned to what they had: fire, instinct, and each another. Meals were not merely prepared; they were forged. Simple ingredients became nourishment. Hunger became invention.

What emerged in those moments was more than sustenance. It was warmth in hardship, comfort in chaos, and a quiet expression of resilience. Recipes were shared, adapted, and remembered; not written, but lived.

Time moved on. Names changed. Borders shifted. Yet those flavours endured, travelling far beyond the camps and fires where they were first created. Eventually finding their way, years later, to the heart of London.
